Apple iPad 11 Review: The A16 Chip Changes Everything

Apple's base iPad has always been the sensible choice — affordable, capable, but undeniably basic. That changes with the A16 Bionic chip. At $427.99, this isn't the cheapest tablet on the market, but the performance jump from the previous generation is so dramatic that it makes the price feel almost reasonable.

We spent three weeks with the 128GB model, using everything from casual browsing to demanding creative apps. The A16 chip transforms what was already a good tablet into something that genuinely surprises. Apps launch instantly, multitasking feels fluid, and even graphics-intensive games run without compromise.

The 11-inch Liquid Retina display is gorgeous — vibrant colors, excellent viewing angles, and True Tone technology that adjusts to ambient lighting. It's not the ProMotion display from the iPad Pro, but for most people, the difference is negligible. Text is crisp, photos pop, and video streaming looks fantastic.

128GB of storage doubles the previous base model's capacity, finally giving users enough room for apps, photos, and offline media without constant juggling. Apple Pencil Pro support adds precision input for note-taking and drawing, while the USB-C port ensures compatibility with modern accessories and faster data transfers.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A11+ at $249.99 offers more storage and expandable memory at a lower price, but loses the Apple ecosystem advantage. The iPad Air with M2 chip offers better performance at a higher price point. For most users, the A16 iPad strikes the ideal balance between capability and cost.
