HP Stream 14 vs Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go: Which Should You Buy?

The HP Stream 14 ($208) is a Windows 11 laptop with an Intel Celeron processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of eMMC storage. It's designed as a basic everyday machine for web browsing, email, and light productivity. The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go ($216) takes a different approach with Chrome OS, an Intel Celeron N4500, 4GB RAM, and 64GB of storage. Both are priced under $220, putting them squarely in the entry-level category.

The most fundamental difference is the operating system. The HP Stream 14 runs Windows 11, giving you access to the full Windows software ecosystem including Microsoft Office desktop apps, while the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go runs Chrome OS, which is lighter and faster on low-end hardware but limits you to web apps and Android apps from the Google Play Store. The Samsung has a slightly newer Intel Celeron N4500 processor compared to the HP's older Celeron chip, which gives it a modest edge in everyday responsiveness. Both have 14-inch displays, though the Samsung's Chromebook display tends to be slightly sharper. Storage is identical at 64GB, though the HP's Windows installation eats into that more than Chrome OS does on the Samsung.

Choose the HP Stream 14 if you need Windows-specific software like full Microsoft Office, specialized desktop applications, or if you simply prefer the Windows environment. It's the safer choice for students who need to install specific programs for school. Choose the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go if your workflow is primarily browser-based — email, Google Docs, streaming, and web apps. Chrome OS runs smoother on low-end hardware, so the Samsung will feel snappier for everyday tasks. It's also a better pick if you're already invested in the Google ecosystem.

Both are solid picks for different needs at nearly the same price. The Samsung edges ahead in performance feel thanks to Chrome OS being lighter, but the HP wins on software flexibility. If you're buying for a student or someone who needs Windows, go HP. For a lightweight secondary laptop or someone who lives in the browser, the Samsung is the better value.
